I am not sure about Blackberry, but as far as communicating between my Nokia, other Nokias, and the iPhone, it is no problem.

I have Cingular/ATT and I can send and receive Chinese and Japanese texts. As long as the person receiving supports it, it is no problem (basically all they have to be able to do is view or input Chinese/Japanese). I know that the iPhones have different languages installed, so they definitely can receive and send, but I am not sure about other phones. Blackberry has an Operating system that supports Oriental characters - I had to download it from a carrier in Germany

Does anyone know which cell phone carrier in the US supports Chinese language text messaging (SMS)? I have a T-Mobile and I know my phone supports Simplified and Traditional Chinese but I just can't seem to receive Chinese text messages. It shows up as question marks.

My wife and I both use our Chinese Cell phones in the US...with full Chinese Character support. It defaults to the AT&T Network.

Just an update from previous information - our cousin in China now reports that the prices to call the US, using China Mobile have dropped dramatically. I wouldn't want to spend hours on hours on long distance calls using this method - but the point is...it just got a bunch cheaper for some reason.

Just as a side note, my friends and I were playing around with our Japanese and Chinese function on our phones. We were texting each other (yes, even though we were all sitting at the same table!). I have AT&T, another friend has AT&T, and another friend has Verizon. The two AT&T phones would receive the Japanese/Chinese text almost immediately, but the Verizon user never got the texts (this was two days ago). It also happened at new years when I texted a Verizon user in both English and Japanese. Seems like Verizon will not receive texts in Japanese or Chinese, even if there is English, so you could have a text like, "Hi there, we are waiting outside, call me when you get here, okay talk to you later, 再见" and the Verizon user won't get the text just because you wrote zai jian. We tried this with several other friends, and all of the time, AT&T people got it (even if their phone did not support foreign characters, it just showed up as blocks) and the Verizon people just plain never got the text at all.

Just thought I'd let you know.

I am interested in Blackberry. I am using portable wireless intenet offered by Alltel company for my laptop, at $60 per month, which I can take it with me surfing internet anywhere. We also have cable internet at home. Here Alltel also offers Blackberry service. To save money, I didn't get Blackberry phone.
